CoverImageOmekaCollection - Page 2.png

This exhibition features visualizations from data analysis of 18th c. Chinese zhiguai 志怪 (lit. 'records of the strange') collections. First, a number of maps guide you through the first chapters of Yuan Mei's 袁枚 (1716-1798) stories in Zibuyu 子不語 (engl. What the Master Would Not Discuss). Then, you will find yourself immersed in words. Comparing wordclouds of the famous zhiguai collections Yuewei caotang biji 閱微草堂筆記 (engl. Jottings from the Thatch Hut of Subtle Views) by Ji Yun 紀昀 (1724-1805), Liaozhai zhiyi 聊齋志異 (engl. Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio) by Pu Songling 蒲松齡 (1641-1715) as well as Yuan Mei's Zibuyu and Xu Zibuyu 續子不語 (engl. What the Master Would Not Discuss, Continued) you will learn more about the difference words can make. Finally, you will be able to explore the same words in word count based statistics. Dive in and explore!
